Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal & perennial allergic rhinitis
- Treatment of the uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Treatment of allergen induced asthma
Pharmacology
- Potent H1 receptor antagonist
- No significant anticholinergic and antiserotonic effects
- Inhibition of histamine-mediated early phase of allergic reaction
- Reduction of migration of inflammatory cells and release of mediators associated with late phase of allergic reaction
- Peak plasma concentrations achieved by Cetirizine 10 mg
- Plasma half-life of approximately 11 hours
- Renal clearance of 30 ml/minute
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosage for adults and children 6 years and older
- Recommended dosage for children 2-6 years and 6 months to 2 years
- Recommended dosage for Cetirizine injectable form in adults, adolescents, and children 6 months to 11 years
Interaction
- No clinically significant drug interactions with Theophylline, Azithromycin, Pseudoephedrine, Ketoconazole or Erythromycin
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to Cetirizine or hydroxyzine
Side Effects
- Most common side effect is somnolence

- Cautious use during pregnancy if clearly needed
- Excretion in human milk
