Pharmacology

  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate
  • Alkylamine antihistamine
  • Histamine H1-receptor blocking agent
  • Less sedation than promethazine
  • Competitive H1-receptor blocking

Dosage and Administration

  • Adult: 4 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 24 mg daily
  • Child:
    • 6-12 years: 2 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 12 mg daily
    • 2-5 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 6 mg daily
    • 1-2 years: 1 mg twice daily
    • Below 1 year: Not recommended

Interaction

  • Incompatible with calcium chloride
  • Incompatible with kanamycin sulfate
  • Incompatible with noradrenaline acid tartrate
  • Incompatible with pentobarbital sodium
  • Incompatible with meglumine adipiodone

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Chlorpheniramine
  • Newborn or premature infants
