Indications

Pharmacology
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an alkylamine antihistamine
- Potent histamine H1-receptor blocking agent
- Less sedation than promethazine
- Competitively blocks H1-receptor
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose is 4 mg every 4-6 hours
- Maximum 24 mg daily for adults
- 2 mg every 4-6 hours for children aged 6-12 years
- Maximum 12 mg daily for children aged 6-12 years
- 1 mg every 4-6 hours for children aged 2-5 years
- Maximum 6 mg daily for children aged 2-5 years
- 1 mg twice daily for children aged 1-2 years
- Below 1 year the use of Chlorpheniramine Maleate is not recommended
Interaction
- Incompatible with calcium chloride
- Incompatible with kanamycin sulfate
- Incompatible with noradrenaline acid tartrate
- Incompatible with pentobarbital sodium
- Incompatible with meglumine adipiodone
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to chlorpheniramine
- Newborn or premature infants

- Not to be used in lactating mothers
- Avoid during the first trimester of pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with glaucoma
- Use with caution in patients with prostatic hypertrophy
- Caution in driving vehicles during therapy
- Caution in operating machinery during therapy
Overdose Effects
- CNS depression
- CNS stimulation
- Tinnitus
- Blurred vision
- Dizziness
- Ataxia
- Hypotension
- Stimulation and atropine-like signs
- More likely in children
