Use in Special Populations

  • Increased production of saliva and bronchial secretion in infants and small children
  • Greater pharmacologic effects in elderly patients
  • Renal impairment does not affect pharmacokinetics
  • Difference in plasma protein binding in cirrhotic patients

Overdose Effects

  • Common symptoms including drowsiness, ataxia, dysarthria, nystagmus
  • Potentially life-threatening symptoms including areflexia, apnoea, hypotension, cardiac and respiratory depression, coma
  • Symptomatic treatment for cardiorespiratory and CNS effects
  • Prevention of further absorption using methods like activated charcoal
