Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by gram-positive bacteria
- Treatment of infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococcal
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections such as boils, abscess, cellulitis
- Protection for skin grafts
- Treatment of respiratory tract, nasal, ear, and throat infections
- Sensitive bacteria infections like osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis
Dosage and administration
- 500mg orally four times daily
- 250mg to 500mg intramuscularly every 4 to 6 hours
- 500mg intravenously every 6 hours
- 500mg intrapleurally or into a joint cavity once daily
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to penicillins
Side effects
- Common side effects include fever, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, urticaria
Precautions and warnings
- Caution should be taken in patients with a history of penicillin allergy
- Oral syrup and drops should be stored in a cool place and refrigerated if possible
- Prepared injections should be used within 30 minutes on muscles or subcutaneous tissues
- Liquid dosage forms remain effective at room temperature for up to 24 hours
