Indications

  • Healing of Erosive Esophagitis
  • Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis
  • Symptomatic Non-Erosive Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Pharmacology

  • Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
  • Suppression of gastric acid secretion
  • Specific inhibition of (H+/K+)-ATPase in the gastric parietal cell
  • R-enantiomer of lansoprazole
  • Dual Delayed Release (DDR) formulation in a capsule
  • Extensively metabolized in the liver
  • Excreated by urine

Dosage

  • 30 mg Once daily for Maintenance of Healed erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn
  • 30 mg Once daily for Symptomatic Non-Erosive GERD
  • 60 mg Once daily for Healing of erosive esophagitis
  • Dosing recommendations for adults and patients 12 to 17 years of age

Administration

  • Can be taken without regard to food
  • Swallowed whole
  • Alternative method: Sprinkle intact granules on one tablespoon and swallow immediately

Interactions

  • With medicine: Atazanavir, Warfarin, Tacrolimus, Clopidogrel & Methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category B
  • No adequate and well-controlled studies with Dexlansoprazole in pregnant women

Precautions & Warnings

  • Gastric Malignancy
  • Clostridium difficile Associated Diarrhea
  • Bone fracture
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Concomitant use of Dexzole with Methotrexate

Use in Special Populations

  • Safety and effectiveness in patients below 12 years age not established
  • No dose adjustment for elderly patients
  • No dose adjustment for patients with renal impairment
  • Consideration of maximum daily dose for patients with moderate hepatic impairment

Overdose Effects

  • No reports of significant overdose of Dexzole
