Indications
- Chronic dry cough

Composition
- 10 mg Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP per 5 ml syrup
Pharmacology
- Central action on cough center in the medulla
- Rapid absorption from GI tract
- Duration of action 3-6 hours
- Metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 15-30 mg 3-4 times per day
- Children (6-12 years): 5-15 mg 4 times per day
- Children (2-6 years): 2.5-5 mg 4 times per day
Interaction
- Fatal interactions with phenelzine reported
Contraindications
- Contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors
- Use with caution in patients with liver disease
Side Effects
- Rare adverse effects
- Nausea and dizziness may occur
- No analgesia or addiction
- Excitation, confusion, respiratory depression with overdosage
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid in first 3 months of pregnancy
- Avoid in breastfeeding mothers
