Indications
- Chronic dry cough

Composition
- 10 mg Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP per 5 ml sugar-free syrup
Pharmacology
- Central action on the cough center in the medulla
- Rapid absorption from the GI tract
- Metabolized in the liver
- Excreted in the urine
- Duration of action is 3-6 hours
Dosage & Administration
- 15-30 mg for adults and children over 12 years
- 5-15 mg for children between 6 and 12 years
- 2.5-5 mg for children between 2 and 6 years
- Recommended frequency of administration
Interaction
- Fatal interactions with phenelzine
Contraindications
- Concomitant use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors
- Caution in patients with liver disease
Side Effects
- Rare occurrence of adverse effects
- Nausea and dizziness
- No analgesia or addiction
- Little or no CNS depression
- Possible excitation, confusion, and respiratory depression with overdosage
