- Proton pump inhibitor
- Suppression of gastric acid secretion
- Inhibition of H+/K+-ATPase
- Better acid control than racemic proton pump inhibitors
- Enteric-coated pellet formulation
- Peak plasma levels at approximately 1.5 hours
- Metabolized in the liver by CYP enzyme system
- Extensive plasma protein binding
- Systemic bioavailability of approximately 90%

- Plasma elimination half-life of approximately 1-1.5 hours
Dosage
- Oral dosage form
- 20 mg or 40 mg Once Daily for 4-8 Weeks for healing of erosive esophagitis
- 20 mg Once Daily for maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis
- 20 mg Once Daily for symptomatic GERD
- Triple Therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication
- 20-80 mg once daily for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- 20-40 mg once daily for acid-related Dyspepsia
- 20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks for Duodenal ulcer
- 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks for Gastric ulcer
- IV Injection or infusion for specific conditions and age groups
Administration
- Swallow whole and take one hour before a meal for tablet or capsule
- Specific instructions for oral suspension
- Preparation of IV injection solution

Interaction
- Metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
- Inhibition of gastric acid secretion
- Possible interference with CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 substrates
- Potential drug interaction with oral contraceptives, diazepam, phenytoin, or quinidine
- Interactions with clarithromycin and amoxicillin

- Known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation

Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
- No overall differences in safety and efficacy in geriatric use
- No dosage adjustment for patients with mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency
- Expected unaltered pharmacokinetics in patients with renal impairment

- Lethal effects observed in animal studies for high doses
