Description
- Symptomatic relief for Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Symptomatic relief for Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Symptomatic relief for Ankylosing spondylitis
- Symptomatic relief for acute gouty arthritis pain and signs of inflammation
- Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery
- Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for Osteoarthritis: 30 mg once daily, may increase to 60 mg for some patients
- Recommended dose for Rheumatoid arthritis: 90 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for Ankylosing spondylitis: 90 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for Acute gouty arthritis: 120 mg once daily for 8 days
- Recommended dose for postoperative dental surgery pain: 90 mg once daily, limited to a maximum of 3 days
- Usage caution for patients with cardiovascular risks
Interactions
- Interaction with oral anticoagulants leading to an increase in prothrombin time
- Potential reduction in the effect of diuretics and other antihypertensive drugs
- Concomitant use with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for cardiovascular prophylaxis
- Potential interaction with ciclosporin, tacrolimus, and lithium
- Advised to take without regards to meals
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
- History of bronchospasm, angioneurotic edema, or allergic-type reactions to NSAIDs
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction, estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Inflammatory bowel disease, congestive heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension
Side Effects
- Palpitation, fatigue, influenza-like symptoms
- Dry mouth, taste disturbance, mouth ulcer, appetite and weight change
- Atrial fibrillation, chest pain, flushing, cough, dyspnea, epistaxis
- Anxiety, impaired mental acuity, paraesthesia, myalgia, arthralgia
- Rare cases of confusion and hallucinations
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended in women attempting to conceive
- Excretion in lactating rats, breastfeeding while using is not advised

- Consideration for patients with significant cardiovascular risk factors
- Monitoring of renal function due to prostaglandin inhibition
