Description

Esomep 40 mg/vial Injection is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for various conditions including chronic heartburn, GERD, erosive esophagitis, H. pylori infection eradication, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, Acid-related Dyspepsia, Duodenal and Gastric ulcers.

Dosage

  • 20 mg or 40 mg Once Daily for Erosive Esophagitis Healing
  • 20 mg Once Daily for Maintenance of Erosive Esophagitis Healing
  • 20 mg Once Daily for Symptomatic GERD
  • Triple Therapy for H. pylori Eradication: Esomeprazole 40 mg Once Daily, Amoxicillin 1000 mg Twice Daily, Clarithromycin 500 mg Twice Daily for 10 Days
  • 20-80 mg Once Daily for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • 20-40 mg Once Daily for Acid-related Dyspepsia for 2-4 Weeks
  • 20 mg Once Daily for 2-4 Weeks for Duodenal Ulcer, 20-40 mg Once Daily for 4-8 Weeks for Gastric Ulcer

Administration

  • Tablet or capsule should be swallowed whole and taken one hour before a meal
  • Oral Suspension should be taken with water and consumed within 30 minutes
  • IV Injection: Esomep 40mg should be injected intravenously over a period of at least 3 minutes

Interaction

  • Esomep is not likely to inhibit CYPs 1A2, 2A6, 2C9, 2D6, 2E1, and 3A4
  • No clinically significant interactions with phenytoin, warfarin, quinidine, clarithromycin, or amoxicillin
  • May interfere with the absorption of drugs where gastric pH is important for bioavailability
  • Co-administration with clarithromycin may result in increased plasma levels of Esomep and 14-hydroxyclarithromycin

Pregnancy lactation

No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. The excretion of esomeprazole in milk has not been studied. Breastfeeding should be discontinued if esomeprazole is considered essential

Precautions warnings

  • Symptomatic response to therapy with Esomep does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy
  • Esomep capsules should be taken at least one hour before meals
  • Antacids may be used while taking Esomep

Special populations

  • Safety and effectiveness in paediatric patients have not been established
  • No overall differences in safety and efficacy have been observed between the elderly and younger individuals
  • No dosage adjustment is recommended for patients with mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency
  • The pharmacokinetics of Esomep in patients with renal impairment are not expected to be altered
