Indications
- Treatment and prophylaxis of Iron, Folic Acid and Zinc deficiency
- Specifically during pregnancy and lactation
Composition
- Each timed-release capsule contains Ferrous Sulphate BP 150 mg
- Equivalent to 47 mg Iron
- Folic Acid BP 500 mcg
- Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP 61.80 mg
- Equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc
Dosage & Administration
- Adult or Elderly: 1 capsule daily
- In severe cases, 2 capsules daily may be required
- Children aged over 1 year: 1 capsule daily
- Capsule may be opened and pellets mixed with soft cool food
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to components of the product
- Iron overload

- Dark stools
- Nausea
- Symptoms of gastrointestinal irritation
- Anorexia
- Vomiting
- Discomfort
- Constipation
- Diarrhoea
- Gastrointestinal upset from Zinc
- Designed to reduce gastrointestinal irritation
- Rare reports of allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use of any drug during first trimester if possible
- Definite evidence of Iron deficiency required for Iron administration in first trimester
- Supplementary Zinc justified during remainder of pregnancy
- Folic acid recommended
Precautions & Warnings
- Care in patients at risk of Iron overloads
- Monitor for failure to respond to treatment
- Monitoring for other causes of anaemia
- Potential interactions with tetracycline
- Iron & Zinc chelate with tetracycline
- Reduced Zinc absorption in presence of Iron
- Reduced Iron absorption by penicillamine and antacids
- Separate administration of products by several hours
- Risk of Zinc accumulation in patients with renal failure
Overdose Effects
- Iron overdosage is dangerous
- Immediate attention required in children
- Gastric lavage or induced vomiting
- Avoid gastric lavage if corrosive effects of zinc present
- Oral desferrioxamine administration
- Intravenous desferrioxamine in severe cases
- Symptoms of Zinc overdose
- Corrosive effects of Zinc
- Gastric lavage or emesis avoided
- Chelating agents recommended
