Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Improves health-related quality of life and work/activity productivity
Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediation
- Blockage of histamine effects
- No significant CNS effects
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for allergic rhinitis in adults and children 12 years and older
- Dosage for chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children 12 years and older
- Instructions for children in various age groups
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Increased level of fexofenadine with erythromycin or ketoconazole coadministration
- No interaction with omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability when coadministered with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Headache, drowsiness, dizziness
- Nausea, fatigue
- Hypersensitivity reactions, tachycardia, diarrhea, rash, pruritus
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data in pregnant women
- Not recommended for breastfeeding mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Warning for patients with cardiovascular disease
- Unlikely to produce effect on the ability to drive or use machines
- Recommendation to check individual response before driving or performing tasks
Use in Special Populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect pharmacokinetics
- Similar adverse events in elderly patients
Overdose Effects
- Reported effects of dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth
- No established maximum tolerated dose
- Recommendation for symptomatic and supportive treatment
