Indications

Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor-mediated hypersensitivity
- Degranulation of mast cells and basophils
- Release of histamine and inflammatory mediators
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier
Dosage and administration
- Dosage for adults and children 12 years and older
- Dosage for children 6 to 11 years
- Dosage for children 2 to 11 years
- Recommended dosage for allergic rhinitis
- Recommended dosage for chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Adjusted dosage in case of impaired renal function
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- No interaction with other medicinal products through hepatic mechanisms
- Increased plasma level with erythromycin or ketoconazole coadministration
- No interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability with antacid coadministration
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride
Side effects
- Nervous system disorders: headache, drowsiness, dizziness
- Gastrointestinal disorders: nausea
- Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity reactions
- Psychiatric disorders: insomnia, nervousness
- Cardiac disorders: tachycardia, palpitations
- Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: rash, urticaria, pruritus
Pregnancy and lactation
- Limited data in pregnant women
- No data on the content of human milk after administration
- Not recommended for mothers breastfeeding their babies
- No human data on the effect on fertility
- No significant effect on fertility in mice
Precautions and warnings
- Limited data in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Careful administration in special groups
- Warning for patients with history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease
- Unlikely to produce significant effects on the ability to drive or use machines
Use in special populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment
- Dose adjustment for patients with decreased renal function
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect the pharmacokinetics
- Similar adverse events in elderly patients compared to patients under 65 years of age
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals over 65 years of age
Overdose effects
- Dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth
- No development of clinically significant adverse reactions at high doses
- Standard measures for removal of unabsorbed medicinal product
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment recommended
- Haemodialysis does not effectively remove Odofex from blood
