Indications

  • Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
  • Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits H1 histamine receptor
  • Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
  • No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults and children 12 years and older: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily
  • Children 6 to 11 years: 30 mg twice daily or 60 mg once daily
  • Children 2 to 11 years: 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily (suspension)
  • Different dosage for impaired renal function

Interaction

  • Increased level of fexofenadine with erythromycin or ketoconazole
  • No interaction with omeprazole
  • Reduced bioavailability with aluminium and magnesium hydroxide containing antacids

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

Use in Special Populations

  • Altered pharmacokinetics in renal impaired patients
  • No substantial effect on moderate to severe hepatic disease
  • Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals over 65 years of age
