Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children 12 years and over
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children 12 years and over
Pharmacology
- Acts as an inverse agonist of the H1 receptor
- Binds to and stabilizes the inactive form of the H1 receptor to prevent its activation and downstream effects
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and children 12 years and older: Tablet: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily
- Children 2 to 11 years: Suspension: 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily
- In case of impaired renal function: Adjusted dosage based on age and condition
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole results in increased plasma levels
- No interaction with omeprazole observed
- Administration with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide gels reduces bioavailability
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

- Patients with history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease should be warned about potential adverse reactions
- Unlikely to produce significant effects on the ability to drive or use machines
Use in Special Populations
- Pharmacokinetics altered in individuals with renal impairment
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect the pharmacokinetics
- Adverse events similar in elderly patients compared to younger patients
Overdose Effects
- Reported effects include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and dry mouth
- Clinical trials with high doses demonstrated no significant adverse reactions
- Standard measures for removal of unabsorbed product recommended
