Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Improves health-related quality of life and work/activity productivity
Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediation
- Degranulation of mast cells and basophils
- Release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators
- Fexofenadine as an inverse agonist of the H1 receptor
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier

- Different dosage for impaired renal function
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation and minimal interaction with other medicinal products
- Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole increases fexofenadine level in plasma
- No interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability when coadministered with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
- Advisable to leave 2 hours between administration of Xonad and antacids
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Care required in special groups
- Patients with history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease should be warned
Use in Special Populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect pharmacokinetics
- Adverse events in elderly patients similar to those under 65 years of age
- Increased bioavailability in individuals over 65 years of age
Overdose Effects
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Fatigue
- Dry mouth
- No clinically significant adverse reactions up to 800 mg single dose
