Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis

Pharmacology
- Fexofenadine is an 'inverse agonist' of the H1 receptor
- Selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of carrying antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier

Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Increased level of fexofenadine in plasma when coadministered with erythromycin or ketoconazole
- No interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability when administered with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Reported undesirable effects in clinical trials and post-marketing surveillance
- Commonly reported effects include headache, drowsiness, nausea, and fatigue
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data in pregnant women
- Fexofenadine found to cross into human breast milk
- Not recommended for mothers breast-feeding their babies

Precautions & Warnings
- Limited data in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Adverse reactions associated with cardiovascular disease
- Unlikely to produce an effect on the ability to drive or use machines
- Altered pharmacokinetics in renal impairment and individuals over 65 years of age
Use in Special Populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in individuals with renal impairment
- Moderate to severe hepatic disease does not substantially affect the pharmacokinetics of fexofenadine
- Similar adverse events in elderly patients compared to patients under 65 years of age
Overdose Effects
- Reported effects of dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and dry mouth with overdose
