Indications
- Short-term treatment of moderate to severe melasma
- Avoid presence of sun after starting treatment
- Use sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or more
Pharmacology
- Contains Fluocinolone Acetonide, Hydroquinone, and Tretinoin as active ingredients
- Mechanism of action in treating melasma is unknown
- Fluocinolone Acetonide is a corticosteroid for topical dermatological use
- Hydroquinone interrupts melanin synthesis
- Tretinoin is a keratolytic agent
Dosage & Administration
- Applied once daily at night
- Applied at least 30 minutes before bedtime
- Should be applied to hyperpigmented areas of melasma
- Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing during the day
Interaction
- Avoid medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers
- Avoid cosmetics with drying effects
- Avoid products with high concentration of alcohol
- Avoid keratolytic drugs
- Avoid concomitant use of medications with photosensitizing effects
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity, allergy, or intolerance to the product or any of its components
Side Effects
- May cause severe allergic reactions
- Skin reactions include redness, peeling, burning, dryness, and itching
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Tretinoin may cause embryo-fetal death, altered fetal growth, and malformations
- No adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women
- Exercise caution when used during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause mild to moderate irritation
- Transient skin reddening or mild burning sensation does not preclude treatment
- Discontinue use if hypersensitivity or chemical irritation occurs
- Systemic absorption of corticosteroids may lead to HPA axis suppression
- Discontinue use if HPA axis suppression is noted
