Indications
- Short-term treatment of moderate to severe melasma of the face
- Use with sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or more
Pharmacology
- Contains active ingredients Fluocinolone Acetonide, Hydroquinone, and Tretinoin
- Mechanism of action is unknown
- Fluocinolone Acetonide is a corticosteroid for topical dermatological use
- Hydroquinone interrupts melanin synthesis
- Tretinoin is a keratolytic agent
Dosage & Administration
- Applied once daily at night
- Applied at least 30 minutes before bedtime
- Should be applied to hyperpigmented areas of melasma
- Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing during the day
- Pediatric use not established
Interaction
- Avoid medicated or abrasive soaps
- Avoid cosmetics with drying effects
- Avoid products with high concentration of alcohol
- Avoid keratolytic drugs
- Avoid concomitant use of medications with photosensitizing effects
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in individuals with history of hypersensitivity, allergy, or intolerance to this product or its components
Side Effects
- May cause severe allergic reactions
- May cause mild to moderate redness, peeling, burning, dryness, or itching
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Contains teratogen tretinoin
- Potential risks to fetus
- Potential systemic absorption in human milk
- Caution in administration to nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause mild to moderate irritation
- Local irritation expected at application site
- Discontinue use if hypersensitivity or chemical irritation is suggested
- Corticosteroid may cause HPA axis suppression
- Recovery of HPA axis function occurs upon discontinuation of corticosteroids
