Indications

  • Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe

Pharmacology

  • Corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory action
  • Induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins
  • Control of biosynthesis of inflammation mediators
  • Lower propensity to increase intraocular pressure than Dexamethasone

Dosage & Administration

  • 1 to 2 drops instilled into the conjunctival sac two to four times daily
  • Dosage may be increased to 2 drops every hour during initial 24 to 48 hours
  • Safety and effectiveness not demonstrated in children under 2 years of age

Interaction

  • Specific drug interaction studies not conducted

Contraindications

  • Patients with acute superficial Herpes simplex keratitis
  • Fungal diseases of ocular structures
  • Hypersensitivity to the constituents of this medication

  • Elevation of intraocular pressure with possible development of glaucoma
  • Loss of visual acuity or defects in fields of vision
  • Eye irritation
  • Ocular hyperemia
  • Eye pain
  • Visual disturbance
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Eyelid edema
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye discharge
  • Eye pruritus
  • Eye swelling
  • Posterior subcapsular cataract formation
  • Ulcerative keratitis
  • Ocular infection (bacterial, fungal, viral)
  • Punctate keratitis
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Rash
  • Delayed wound healing

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category B3
  • Potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
  • Unknown systemic absorption into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution required in patients with history of Herpes simplex keratitis
  • Use for not more than 10 days except under strict supervision
  • Regular checks for intraocular pressure
  • May mask, activate or aggravate eye infection
  • Consider alternative treatment if no improvement observed

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a dry place away from light
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Prevent contamination of dropper tip and suspension
  • Do not touch eyelids, surrounding areas, or other surfaces with dropper tip

  • Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
