Dosage & Administration
- 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon for adults
- 1 tablet in the morning for elderly patients
- Maintenance dose of 1 tablet orally in the morning
- Additional treatment with a sedative in severe cases
Pharmacology
- Consists of flupentixol and melitracen
- Maximal serum concentration reached in about 4 hours after oral administration
- Biological half-life of flupentixol and melitracen
Interaction
- Enhanced response to alcohol and CNS depressants
- Hypertensive crises with MAO-inhibitors
- Influence on antihypertensive effect of guanethidine
- Enhanced effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline
- Reduction of antihypertensive effect of guanethidine
Contraindications
- Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction
- Defects in bundle-branch conduction
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
- Acute alcohol, barbiturate and opiate intoxications
- Recent MAO-inhibitor use
- Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients
