Description

  • This tablet is indicated for Anxiety, Depression, Apathy, Psychogenic depression, Depressive neurosses, Masked depression, Menopausal depression, Dysphoria and depression in alcoholics and drug addicts.
  • Flupentixol has neuroleptic, anxiolytic, and antidepressant properties in small doses, while Melitracen has bipolar thymoleptic properties in low doses.
  • Adult dosage is usually 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon, and 1 tablet for elderly patients in the morning, with a maintenance dose of 1 tablet orally in the morning. Extra treatment with a sedative in the acute phase is recommended for insomnia or severe restlessness.
  • It may enhance the response to alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants. Simultaneous administration of MAO-inhibitors may cause hypertensive crises.
  • Contraindicated in immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction, defects in bundle-branch conduction, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, acute alcohol, barbiturate and opiate intoxications, and to patients who have received an MAO-inhibitor within two weeks. Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients.
  • Rare side effects in recommended doses include transient restlessness and insomnia. Preferably not to be given during pregnancy and lactation. If previously treated with tranquillizers with a sedative effect, they should be withdrawn gradually.
  • In cases of overdosage, symptoms of intoxications by melitracen dominate, especially of anticholinergic nature. Symptomatic and supportive treatment should be instituted.

        • Maximal serum concentration is reached in about 4 hours after oral administration of flupentixol and melitracen.
        • Biological half-life of flupentixol is about 35 hours and that of melitracen is about 19 hours.

            Interaction
