Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon for adults
- 1 tablet orally in the morning for elderly patients
- Maintenance dose of 1 tablet orally in the morning
- Additional treatment with a sedative in the acute phase for insomnia or severe restlessness
Interaction
- Enhanced response to alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants
- Simultaneous administration of MAO-inhibitors may cause hypertensive crises
- Reduction of antihypertensive effect of guanethidine and similar acting compounds by neuroleptics and thymoleptics
- Thymoleptics enhance the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline
Contraindications
- Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction
- Defects in bundle-branch conduction
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
- Acute alcohol, barbiturate and opiate intoxications
- Patients who have received an MAO-inhibitor within two weeks
- Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients
