Indications

Pharmacology
- Proton pump inhibitor
- Suppression of gastric acid secretion
- Inhibition of the H+/K+-ATPase in the gastric parietal cell
- Better acid control than racemic proton pump inhibitors
- Enteric-coated pellet formulation
- Peak plasma levels occur at approximately 1.5 hours
- Metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme system
- Low plasma protein binding
- Extensive metabolism
- Plasma elimination half-life is approximately 1-1.5 hours
Dosage
- Oral dosage form
- IV Injection or IV infusion for GERD with Erosive Esophagitis
- Different dosages for different indications
- Dosage adjustments for pediatric and adult patients
- Duration of treatment for different conditions
Administration
- Tablet or capsule should be swallowed whole and taken one hour before a meal
- Instructions for oral suspension administration

Interaction
- Extensively metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
- Not likely to inhibit CYPs 1A2, 2A6, 2C9, 2D6, 2E1 and 3A4
- Potential interference with absorption of certain drugs
- No clinically significant interactions with specific drugs
