Pharmacology
- Derived from Fusidium coccineum
- Powerful activity against gram-positive organisms
- Susceptible to Staphylococci
- Inhibitor of protein synthesis
- Interferes with the translocation step
- Prevents binding of aminoacyl t-RNA to the ribosome
- Stops transfer of additional amino acids to the growing polypeptide
Dosage & Administration
- Applied to affected areas 2 to 3 times daily
- Applied generally for a period of 7 days
- Can be used with or without a covering dressing
- Caution near the eye region
- No special dosage modifications for children
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Sodium Fusidate
- Severe hepatic failure
