Indications

  • Reduces blood sugar levels
  • Used in type 2 diabetes Mellitus in adults

Pharmacology

  • Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
  • Decreases hepatic glucose output

Dosage administration

  • Usual initial dose is 40 to 80 mg daily
  • Maximum dose up to 320 mg daily
  • Dose determination by doctor based on blood sugar levels
  • For oral use with water at breakfast time

Interactions

  • May interact with other oral antidiabetic medicines
  • May interact with antibiotics, antifungals, and antidepressants
  • May increase effects of medicines reducing blood clotting
