Indications

Pharmacology

  • Second generation sulfonylurea drug
  • Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
  • Facilitates Ca+2 transport across beta-cell membranes
  • Decreases hepatic glucose output

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual initial dose: 40-80mg daily
  • Dose can be increased up to 320mg daily in divided doses
  • Modified release preparation available
  • Recommended daily dose: 1 to 4 tablets (maximum 120 mg)
  • To be taken with a glass of water at breakfast time
  • Swallow whole, do not chew or crush
  • Always eat a meal after taking the tablet

Interaction

  • May interact with other oral antidiabetics, GLP-1 receptor agonists, insulin, antibiotics, medicines for high blood pressure, heart failure, fungal infections, ulcers, depression, painkillers, and more

Contraindications
