Description
- SB-Glim Tablet is an oral antidiabetic medication indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to lower blood glucose levels in patients with noninsulin dependent (Type II) diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin or insulin.

Primary Mechanism of Action
- Stimulates the release of insulin from pancreatic beta cells
- Improves sensitivity of beta cells to glucose stimulus
- Reduces basal hepatic glucose production
- Increases peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin
Duration of Hypoglycaemic Action
- Persistence for 24 hours in non-fasting diabetic patients
Recommended Initial Dose
- 1mg once daily
Usual Dose Range for Well-Controlled Diabetes
- 1 to 4mg daily
Administration Method
- Oral, with sufficient amount of liquid
Interaction with Other Drugs
- Potentiates action with ACE inhibitors, fluconazole, sulphonamide antibiotics
- Attenuates action with barbiturates, corticosteroids, diazoxide, diuretics
Contraindications
- Insulin dependent (Type I) diabetes mellitus
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Diabetic coma
- Hypersensitivity to glimepiride or sulfonylureas
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Severe impairment of renal function
- Dialysis patients

- Fall in blood pressure
Pregnancy & Lactation Warning
- Not suitable during pregnancy; changeover to insulin necessary
- Must not be taken by breastfeeding women
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of hypoglycaemia in initial weeks
- Careful monitoring required
- Immediate intake of carbohydrates to control hypoglycaemia
Overdose Effects
- Can produce hypoglycaemia
- Mild symptoms treated with oral glucose and dosage adjustments
- Severe reactions require immediate hospitalization and IV glucose
