Indications
- Transurethral resection of prostate
- Endoscopic procedures within the urinary tract
- Urinary bladder surgery
Pharmacology
- Contains glycine, an amino acid and non-electrolyte
- Non-conductive and suitable for irrigation purpose
- Minimizes risk of intravascular haemolysis
- Rapidly degraded in the liver by glycine oxidase
Dosage
- Total volume used for irrigation depends on surgeon's judgment
- Height from operating table affects intravascular absorption of glycine
Administration Procedure
- Check infusion set and infusion solution prior to use
- Tear off protective cover of the Eurohead
- Open flow regulator fully
- Insert spike of administration set to Eurohead
- Clean veinpuncture site with antiseptic solution
- Start infusion while adjusting drip speed
Interaction
- Additives may be incompatible
- Use aseptic technique when introducing additives
- Do not store after mixing thoroughly
Contraindications
- Not for injection in any route
- Contraindicated in patients with anuria
Side Effects
- Large intravenous doses can cause nausea and salivation
- Systemic absorption can lead to electrolyte loss, diuresis, edema, thirst, dehydration, cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders
Precautions & Warnings
- Patients with cardiovascular disease should be evaluated post procedure
- Care should be exercised if liver or kidney is impaired
- Aseptic technique is essential
- Unused portion should be discarded
- Do not use if solution is cloudy, contains particles or after expiry date
