Indications

Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose for adults: moderate symptomatology 0.5 mg to 3.0 mg 2 to 3 times daily
- Initial dose for adults: severe symptomatology 3.0 mg to 5.0 mg 2 to 3 times daily
- Initial dose for elderly patients: 0.5 mg to 4.5 mg 2 to 3 times daily
- Initial dose for chronic or resistant patients: 3.0 mg to 6.0 mg 2 to 3 times daily
- Children's dose: 50 microgram per kg body weight
- Injection dose for schizophrenia and mania: initially 2-10 mg
Interaction
- Interferes with anticoagulant properties
- May antagonize the action of epinephrine
- Inhibits the metabolization of tricyclic antidepressants
- Impairs the antiparkinson effects of levodopa
Contraindications
- Comatose states and CNS depression due to alcohol or other depressant drugs
- Severe depressive states
- Previous spastic diseases
- Parkinson's syndrome (except in the case of dyskinesias due to levodopa treatment)

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety for use in pregnancy and lactation not established

Precautions & Warnings
- May lower the convulsive threshold
- Caution in patients with severe impairment of liver or kidney function
- Caution in patients with pheochromocytoma
- Possible potentiating effect on potent analgesics or hypnotics
Overdose Effects
- Exaggeration of known pharmacologic effects
- Severe extrapyramidal reactions
- Respiratory depression
- Hypotension
