Indications

Description

  • Long-acting β2-adrenergic agonist
  • Acts as a bronchodilator
  • Pharmacological effects on intracellular adenyl cyclase

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral inhalation only
  • Once-daily inhalation
  • Recommended dosages of 75mcg, 150mcg, 300mcg

Interaction

  • Shows interactions with Adrenergic Drugs, Xanthine Derivatives, Steroids, or Diuretics
  • Caution with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, or drugs prolonging QTc interval

Contraindications

  • Not indicated for asthma treatment
  • Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Indacaterol or its ingredients

Side Effects

  • Commonly reported adverse effects: cough, nasopharyngitis, headache, nausea, oropharyngeal pain
  • Other reported effects: hypersensitivity reactions, paradoxical bronchospasm, tachycardia, pruritis, dizziness

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C
  • Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
  • Exercise caution when administered to nursing women

Precautions & Warnings

  • Rarely, serious breathing problems reported in people with asthma using long-acting inhaled beta agonists
  • Not approved or safe for asthma treatment

Overdose Effects

  • Expected signs and symptoms associated with overdose
  • Excessive beta-adrenergic stimulation with potential severe effects including cardiac arrest and death
