Indications
- Treatment of essential hypertension
- Treatment of salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure
- Effective in treating hypertension in patients with renal function impairment
Pharmacology
- Diuretic antihypertensive
- Causes vasodilation
- Inhibits the passage of calcium and other ions
- Reduces total peripheral and arteriolar resistance
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet daily preferably in the morning
- Combine with other categories of anti-hypertensive agent in severe cases
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
Interaction
- May add to or potentiate the action of other antihypertensive drugs
- May decrease arterial responsiveness to norepinephrine
- Should not be given concomitantly with lithium
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides
- Severe renal failure
- Hepatic encephalopathy or severe hepatic failure
- Hypokalaemia

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended in pregnant women
- Mothers taking Indapamide should not breastfeed
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitoring of potassium and uric acid serum levels recommended
- Allergic manifestations monitoring for patients with a history of allergy to sulfonamide derivatives
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include: allergies, skin rashes, epigastric pain, nausea, photosensitivity, dizziness, weakness, paraesthesia
- Treatment is supportive and symptomatic, directed at correcting the electrolyte abnormalities
