Indications

  • Short-term management of post-operative pain
  • Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decreasing eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Pyrrolo-pyrrole group nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug
  • Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
  • S-form associated biological activity
  • Linear pharmacokinetic property
  • Highly protein bound
  • Metabolized in the liver
  • Excretion in urine

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic
  • Inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet: Recommended dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
  • Injection: Single or multiple doses for moderately severe, acute pain
  • Different dosing for patients of different age groups and renal function
  • Maximum daily doses for different patient groups
  • Eye Drops: Recommended administration of 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • Enhanced side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
  • Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
  • Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
  • Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
  • Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Use not recommended for children under 16 years of age
  • Not to be used as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

  • Avoid use while wearing contact lenses
