Indications
- Short-term management of post-operative pain

Description
- Pyrrolo-pyrrole group nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug
- Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
- S-form associated biological activity
- Linear pharmacokinetic property
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Excretion in urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic
- Inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection: Single or multiple doses for moderately severe, acute pain
- Different dosing for patients of different age groups and renal function
- Maximum daily doses for different patient groups
- Eye Drops: Recommended administration of 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Enhanced side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Use not recommended for children under 16 years of age
- Not to be used as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
