Indications

  • Short-term management of post-operative pain
  • Relief from inflammation and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Reduction of eye inflammation or redness due to seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
  • Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits prostaglandins synthesis
  • Associated with the S-form
  • Highly protein bound and metabolized in the liver

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic
  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
  • Injection: Used for moderately severe acute pain management, with specific dosages for different age groups and conditions
  • Eye Drops: Adult dosage is 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • NSAIDs or aspirin: Increases side effects
  • Anti-coagulants: Enhances anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blocker: Reduces anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors: Increases risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate: Enhances toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to drug or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic before surgery
