Indications
- Management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreasing eye inflammation or redness caused by allergies
Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical composition as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins and acts as a peripherally acting analgesic
- Metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system and prostaglandin synthesis
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection recommended dose varies by age and condition, with maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours after dosing
- Eye Drops dose: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily for adults
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blocker
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not for use in children under 16 years of age
- Not to be used as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings

- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Eye Drops not to be administered while wearing contact lenses
