Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain

Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemically known as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins as a peripherally acting analgesic
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Linear pharmacokinetic property
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Excretion in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimally anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection may be used for acute pain management, with specific dosing guidelines based on age, weight, and renal function
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients over 65 years, active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use in patients with corneal epithelial breakdown
- Avoid administration while wearing contact lenses
