Indications
- Short-term management of post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Pyrrolo-pyrrole group nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid
- Mode of action associated with the S-form
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection: Used for management of moderately severe, acute pain
- IM administration should be given slowly and deeply into the muscle
- IV bolus must be given over no less than 15 seconds
- Recommended dosages for different age groups and conditions
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin can increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants can enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blocker may reduce anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors can increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate can enhance the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic use before surgery
