Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decrease in eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Chemical Composition

  • Pyrrolo-pyrrole group NSAID
  • 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet: Recommended dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours
  • Injection: Single or multiple doses, IV bolus given over no less than 15 seconds
  • Eye Drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
  • Age-specific dosing for different routes of administration

Interaction

  • Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
  • Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
  • Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
  • Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
  • Enhanced methotrexate toxicity

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

  • Avoid administering while wearing contact lenses
