Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Metabolized in the liver

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use only (up to 7 days)
  • Injection for management of moderately severe, acute pain at opioid level
  • Recommended eye drop dosage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin: Increase side effects of Kelorac
  • Anti-coagulants: Enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blocker: Reduce anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors: Increase risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate: Enhance toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to this drug or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

  • Caution in patients with asthma and liver dysfunction
  • Discontinue use in cases of corneal epithelial breakdown
  • Not to be administered while wearing contact lenses
