Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use only (up to 7 days)
- Injection for management of moderately severe, acute pain at opioid level
- Recommended eye drop dosage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin: Increase side effects of Kelorac
- Anti-coagulants: Enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blocker: Reduce anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors: Increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate: Enhance toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to this drug or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Caution in patients with asthma and liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use in cases of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Not to be administered while wearing contact lenses
