Description

Ketorolac Tromethamine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the pyrrolo-pyrrole group

Pharmacology

Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins, acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme system, minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended tablet dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use, not for chronic use
  • Injection may be used for management of moderately severe acute pain, with specific dosing for different patient groups
  • Eye drops recommended dosage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
  • Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate enhances toxicity

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic before surgery
