Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Antihistamine properties
- Anti-anaphylactic properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
- Prevention of asthmatic attacks
- Effectiveness in reducing asthma attacks
- Progressive reduction of corticosteroids and/or bronchodilators
- Prophylactic activity taking several weeks to become fully established
Dosage & Administration
- 1 mg twice daily for adults with food
- 2 mg twice daily in severe cases for adults
- 1 mg twice daily for children above 3 years with food
- 0.5 to 1 mg at night for sedated patients above 3 years
- Elderly use similar to adult dose
Interaction
- Potentiation of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in platelet count when taken with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- Avoiding use with oral antidiabetic agents
- No recommendations for use in pregnancy or when breastfeeding

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Continuing previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Aptofen
- Supplementing with specific antimicrobial therapy in case of intercurrent infection
- Impairment of reactions during the first day of treatment
- Advice to avoid alcoholic drinks
- Potentiation of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
