Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating the complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Properties of an antihistamine
- Anti-anaphylactic properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
- Preventive effect on asthmatic attacks
- Experimental investigations on asthmatic subjects
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Dose may be increased to 2 mg twice daily in severe cases
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Use in elderly: Same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interaction
- Potentiate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in the platelet count observed in some patients
Contraindications
- Reversible fall in the platelet count observed with concomitant use of oral antidiabetic agents
- No evidence of teratogenic effect, but recommendations for use in pregnancy or when breastfeeding cannot be given

Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of teratogenic effect, but not recommended during pregnancy or lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Kafu
- Avoid exacerbation of asthma
- Systemic corticosteroids and ACTH may need to be continued
- Specific antimicrobial therapy for intercurrent infection
- Impaired reactions at the beginning of treatment
- Potential potentiation of the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol

- Respiratory depression
- Recommendation for elimination of the drug with gastric lavage or emesis
