Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology
Anti-allergic properties, antihistamine, anti-anaphylactic properties, inhibitory effect on histamine reactions, effective in preventing asthmatic attacks, sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions, studied in long-term clinical trials, progressive reduction of corticosteroids and/or bronchodilators
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food, maximum 2 mg twice daily
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food, 0.5 to 1 mg at night for easily sedated patients
- Elderly: Same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interaction
Potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
Contraindications
Avoid concomitant use with oral antidiabetic agents, avoid in pregnancy or breastfeeding
Side Effects
Drowsiness, dry mouth, slight dizziness

Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Kefat, supplement Kefat treatment with antimicrobial therapy for intercurrent infection, avoid alcoholic drinks, potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
Overdose Effects
Confusion, drowsiness, headache, bradycardia, respiratory depression, gastric lavage or emesis recommended
