Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever, urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Properties of an antihistamine
- Marked anti-anaphylactic properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Use in elderly same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interaction
- Potentiate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in platelet count observed in a few patients receiving Tifen concomitantly with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- Reversible fall in platelet count observed in a few patients receiving Ketotifen concomitantly with oral antidiabetic agent
- No evidence of any teratogenic effect
Side Effects
- Drowsiness
- Isolated cases of dry mouth and slight dizziness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of any teratogenic effect
- Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Kefat
- Avoid exacerbation of asthma
- Avoid alcoholic drinks
- Potentiate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
- Impaired reactions may occur during the first day of treatment
