Indications

Short term treatment of active duodenal ulcer
Maintenance of healed duodenal ulcers
Short term treatment of active benign gastric ulcers

Pathological hypersecretory conditions including Zollinger- Ellison Syndrome

Pharmacology

Substituted benzimidazole
Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
Blocks final step of acid secretion
Inhibits H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system

Dosage & Administration

30 mg daily in the morning for benign gastric ulcer
30 mg daily in the morning for 4 weeks for duodenal ulcer
15-30 mg daily for NSAID-associated ulcers
60 mg once daily adjusted according to response for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
30 mg daily in the morning for gastroesophageal reflux disease
15-30 mg daily in the morning for acid-related dyspepsia

Interaction

Selective inhibitor of cytochrome P-450 monooxygenase system
Potential effect on hepatic clearance
Potential effect on oral combined contraceptive pill
Reduction in gastric acid likely to influence bacterial colonization and vitamin B12 absorption

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation
