Description

  • A synthetic sugar used as an effective treatment approach for constipation, drawing water into the bowel, causing distention through fluid accumulation, promoting soft stool, and accelerating bowel motion.

Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult Dosage: 3-6 tea-spoons daily for chronic constipation
  • Children Dosage: 3 tea-spoons daily for chronic constipation
  • Infants Dosage: 1-2 tea-spoons daily for chronic constipation
  • Adult Dosage: 1-2 tea-spoons daily for damaged intestinal flora
  • Children Dosage: 1 tea-spoon daily for damaged intestinal flora
  • Maximum Dosage for Hyper-ammoniemia in hepatopathy: 18-30 tea-spoons daily

Interaction

  • No significant drug interactions with Lactomose
  • Potassium deficiency may intensify glycosidic effect of cardiac glycosides

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to galactose and lactose
  • Galactose-free diet
  • Gastro-cardial symptom complex
  • Suspected intestinal obstruction

Side Effects

  • Flatulence
  • Cramp
  • Abdominal discomfort at the beginning of treatment
  • Diarrhoea in case of overdose
  • Loss of electrolytes, primarily potassium in abuse
