Indications

Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of specific bacteria
Promising treatment for other ocular infections including bacterial corneal ulcer, blepharitis, hordeolum, and perioperative condition

Pharmacology

Synthetic, broad spectrum, third generation fluoroquinolone bactericidal antibiotic active against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative ocular pathogens

Dosage & Administration

0.5% and 1.5% eye drop options for different age groups
Specific dosing instructions for adults, children 1 year of age and older, and children 6 years of age and older
Safety and effectiveness not established for children below 1 year of age

Interaction

No specific drug interaction studies conducted with the eye drops, but possible interactions with theophylline, caffeine, and oral anticoagulant warfarin and its derivatives

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin, other quinolones, or any of the components of the medication

Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi, if superinfection occurs, discontinue use and institute alternative therapy
