Indications
- Treatment or prevention of bronchospasm in adults
- Adolescents with reversible obstructive airway disease
- Children 6 years of age and older
Pharmacology
- Levosalbutamol is a single isomer beta 2-agonist
- Effective bronchodilator
- Primary mechanism of action is unimpeded by (S)-salbutamol
- Clinically comparable bronchodilation with lessened beta-mediated side effects
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet dosage for adults and adolescents above 12 years
- Tablet dosage for children (6 -11 years)
- Syrup dosage for adults
- Syrup dosage for children (6-11 years)
Interaction
- Caution with other short acting sympathomimetic bronchodilators or epinephrine
- Adrenergic drugs used with caution to avoid deleterious cardiovascular effects
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to levosalbutamol or its components

- Hypocalcaemia
- Palpitation
- Fine tremors of skeletal muscle
- Muscle cramps
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Burning substernal or epigastric pain
- Diarrhoea
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy should justify potential risk to fetus
- Unknown excretion in human milk
- Caution in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Particular caution advised in acute severe asthma
- Caution with xanthine derivatives, steroids and diuretics
- Monitor serum potassium levels
Overdose Effects
- Expected symptoms of excessive beta-adrenergic stimulation
- Symptoms listed under side effects
- Stomach should be emptied in event of serious poisoning
- Beta-blocker administered with caution in patients with history of bronchospasm
