Indications

  • Peptic ulcer diseases
  • Gastroesophageal reflux diseases
  • Ulcer induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibiotics)
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Pharmacology

Proton pump inhibitor that suppresses the final step in gastric acid production by covalently binding to the H+/K+ATPase enzyme

Dosage & Administration

  • 40 mg daily for benign gastric ulcer for 4 weeks
  • 20-40 mg daily for GERD for 4 weeks
  • 40 mg oral for duodenal ulcer for 2 weeks
  • 40 mg IV daily for duodenal ulcer and gastric ulcer for 7-10 days

Interaction

No significant drug interactions observed in clinical studies

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formulation

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category B. Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in human milk.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Tablet should not be split, chewed or crushed
  • Long-term therapy may lead to malabsorption of cyanocobalamin or increase the risk of osteoporosis related disorders

Overdose Effects

No known symptoms of overdosage in humans. Not readily dialyzable.

Reconstitution

  • IV injection requires 0.9% Sodium Chloride for intravenous administration only
  • IV infusion to be reconstituted with 0.9% Sodium Chloride and further diluted with 0.9% Sodium Chloride or 5% Dextrose or Lactated Ringer's Injection
